Looking to learn Pickleball or already know how and want to use the Pickleball courts and equipment at George Park and the indoor winter courts at Harold Martin? The Rec Dept. is offering a recreational program that includes all skill levels. Read below for all the details!
The Recreation Dept. offers outdoor Pickleball as a "self-led" Pickleball program for all those who wish to have access to the portable Pickleball nets and take advantage of the reserved Pickleball times on the tennis courts at George Park (the Town Park next to HMHS). Those who sign up for the program and take the info session will have access to the equipment in the spring, summer and fall and can play during the designated Pickleball times or at other times as first come, first served as long as that time does not interfere with HYSA's designated tennis program times. Registrants can also play on the indoor courts at Harold Martin in the winter.
How to join the Recreation Department Pickleball program:
1. Those 18+ are welcome to register below, agree to the standard waiver and pay the one time $25 registration fee to attend the info session. The $25 registration fee is the fee to cover the one-time required info session, access to the Team Reach App and use of the Town Pickleball equipment. Once you take the info session, you will not be required to take another info session in the future.
2. Each person registered MUST attend the info session that will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 9 am in order to be included in the self-led program, have access the Team Reach App and use the Town equipment. This info session is held at the tennis/pickleball courts beside the high school. Once you register and attend the Aug. 3 session, you do not have to attend another info session. Even if you have played Pickleball before, you still have to attend the one-time info session, although you will not have to stay for the learn to play portion.
3. Once the info session is complete, each person will be given access to the Team Reach App so they can manage play times with other program members. Feel free to download the Team Reach app before arriving at the info session.
4. Each person will be given access to the portable nets, extra paddles and balls after completing the info session. Each person can use the equipment during the designated program times in the spring, summer and fall or as first come, first served at other times as long as they don't interfere with HYSA tennis.
What to expect at the Info Session at HMS on Aug. 3:
Our Pickleball instructor will go over the game and how to play, the proper way to setup and store the nets, setup the Team Reach App, and answer any questions you may have. You will get to play so bring a Pickleball paddle (a few will be available to borrow if you do not have one), wear athletic shoes and bring water.
After Attending the Info Session:
Feel free to play Pickleball during the designated Pickleball times or as first come, first served in the spring, summer and fall at the outdoor courts (except during HYSA tennis time). Use the Team Reach App if you wish to contact others in the program and meet to play!
Can't make the Info Session or want to play outside in the spring, summer and fall without joining the program: Hopkinton residents are welcome to use these courts at any time as first come, first served but will need to bring their own portable net, rackets and balls. Do keep in mind that if you are not part of the Rec Dept. Pickleball program, you will not be able to use the courts during the Rec Dept. Pickleball program times.
