While the national wildlife refuge on Plum Island is renowned for spring birding, it is also a magical place to bird in the late summer. Plump and speckled shorebirds are hunting in the tidal flats, tall white egrets are wading in the shallows, and iridescent tree swallows are gathering in the thousands to prepare for their migration. Join naturalist and educator Linden Rayton for this special guided field trip at the end of summer. Meet at the refuge parking Lot 1 ($5 car entry), carpooling available. Bring weather-appropriate clothing, a hat with a brim, water and snacks, and binoculars, or borrow one of three loaner pairs. 6 participants minimum, 12 maximum.
