The AARP Smart Driver Course teaches valuable defensive driving skills and provides a refresher of the rules of the road. Since 1979, the course has helped over 14 million drivers learn proven safety strategies and tips for how to adapt one’s driving to compensate for physical and cognitive changes that may come with aging. Plus, you may qualify for an automobile insurance discount by completing the course (participants should check with their auto insurance agent for details).
By taking the AARP Smart Driver course you'll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. In addition, you'll learn:
--How to minimize the effects of dangerous blind spots
--How to maintain the proper following distance behind another car
--The safest ways to change lanes and make turns at busy intersections
--Proper use of safety belts, air bags, anti-lock brakes, and new technologies used in cars
--Ways to monitor your own and others' driving skills and capabilities
--The effects of medications on driving
--The importance of eliminating distractions, such as eating, smoking, and cell-phone use
Class is designed for those age 50+
This is a 2 day class: October 16 and 17 from 9 am - 12 noon. Please arrive at 8:45 am on May 20th!
Cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members with check made payable to AARP on the first day of the class (no cash or credit cards accepted). Class size is limited to 20, so call the Slusser Center at 746-8265 to have your name added to the list!
